Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is introducing a new AI-powered search feature to Fire TV, allowing Alexa to answer open-ended questions about TV shows and movies and provide tailored recommendations based on users’ preferences.
Announced during Amazon’s annual devices event last September, the feature utilizes a proprietary large language model (LLM). This AI can comprehend natural language and phrases, responding to specific inquiries such as, “What movie features the line ‘Life is like a box of chocolates?’” (Spoiler alert: It’s “Forrest Gump”). Additionally, it can suggest options based on actors, characters, genres, and topics.
Alexa will also recommend titles available on streaming services users are subscribed to. For instance, if you inquire about psychological thrillers with unexpected endings, Alexa will display content accessible to you.
The new feature will roll out in the coming weeks to U.S. customers with Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or later.
This enhancement is the latest addition to Amazon’s efforts to incorporate generative AI-powered features into Fire TV. Previously, the company launched an AI-powered image generator for creating TV backgrounds and introduced three Alexa experiences enabling users to play games and compose songs.
